The Gamble of CLEP Testing

One objection I’ve heard about CLEP testing is that it is a gamble for students…which is true. However, it is, with proper preparation, one of the safest gambles that a student can make, and one with great rewards.

The CLEP exams allow students to take one exam, which tests their knowledge of a subject, and if a student passes the CLEP, it replaces a corresponding class. The gamble is that it all comes down to one test; if the student passes it, they get the credit and get out of the class, but if they fail, they still have to take the class, plus they are out the ~$100 for the CLEP and any CLEP study material.

Like most gambles, the benefits of passing the CLEP are huge. Students can avoid taking a boring class, while saving 10 or so weeks, since the CLEP doesn’t take as long to study for. Students can also save around $1000, as most classes cost about that, while the CLEP costs less than $100.

Where taking a CLEP is different than most gambles you can take is that for the CLEP you can stack the deck in your favor, and make it almost certain that you will win. All you need to do is to find good CLEP study materials, study hard, and use CLEP practice tests, and you can make it almost certain that you will pass. Combine this with good test taking skills, and it’s an even better chance that you will pass.

CLEP tests are a gamble, but with proper preparation, it is well worth it. You will have more time and more money, while still earning the same credit. It’s the safest gamble you can take.
